AIPH
It’s 75 years since the International Association of
Horticultural Producers (AIPH) was formed by growers
intending to unite thousands of flowers and ornamental
plant growers worldwide. Now, it is a thriving global
community of members from the horticulture industry.
ANVE is a member of AIPH and represents Italy
within the Association. ANVE’s former president,
Leonardo Capitanio, is AIPH’s President.
Since 1948, as the world’s champion for the power of plants,
AIPH’s work continues to inspire members with industry
knowledge, best practices, and free access to data on the
global production and trade of flowers and plants through
the annual International Statistics – Flowers and Plants.
Through AIPH Green City, we emphasise greening and
making our cities more liveable through plants.
AIPH approves International Horticultural Expos, and
Members can bring forward city applications. In Italy, we
approved the professional trade fair Myplant&Garden,
which will take place from 21 to 23 February 2024 in
Fiera Milano. Members can also enter candidates for the
International Grower of the Year Awards.
President's Speech
Leonardo Capitanio
President
As the President of the International Association of
Horticultural Producers (AIPH), I am honoured to serve in
this role. Horticulture is not merely my profession but also
my passion. It involves nurturing life, fostering biodiversity,
and mitigating climate change. AIPH’s work contributes
to raising awareness among millions of people about the
positive impact of nature on human lives.
In my first year, I am proud to witness the coming together
of nations and cultures in the name of horticulture,
sustainability, and a brighter future. As the AIPH President,
I have the privilege to share my vision for the industry
in speeches at ceremonial openings of International
Horticultural Expos in the Republic of Korea, Doha,
Qatar (the first horticultural expo in a desert region), and
Türkiye (despite the challenges for its people after a mega
earthquake).
As the world’s champion for the power of plants, AIPH
supports plant nurseries in growing products that not only
contribute to the aesthetics of our cities but also play a
crucial role in improving the quality of the air we breathe,
reducing stress, and enhancing the overall well-being of the
community. In an increasingly urbanised world, nurseries
are the silent guardians that help maintain our connection
with nature. Our horticulture industry has a global production value of
approximately $90 billion and an estimated retail market
value of $225 billion. AIPH gives our industry a voice by
advocating across all segments and driving change
through world horticultural expos, plant health causes,
plant breeders’ rights, flower auctions, and the Green
City initiative. Our bi-annual conferences bring together
participants from all areas of ornamental horticulture to
network and learn from each other.
As my father taught me, it is essential to listen, and it
is crucial to listen to each other in this industry, especially
since many family businesses form the backbone
of ornamental horticulture.
