15th National Mediterranean Nursery Gardening Day

On Saturday, May 27, 2023, the 15th National Day of Mediterranean Nurseries, ANVE’s annual event, took place in Monopoli at VIVAI Capitanio. The theme, ‘Italian Nursery Growing: an excellence to promote and support,’ provided a unique opportunity for both in-person and streaming participants to gain insights directly from those working behind the scenes to promote and support this Italian excellence. Charles Lansdorp, an international marketing and communication consultant in the world of floriculture, skillfully moderated the morning’s proceedings. He orchestrated the speeches, including one from Senator Vita Maria Nocco, a member of the 5th Standing Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, who emphasized the significance of floriculture as Italian excellence. Brunella Saccone, Head of the Agri-food and Wine Office, representing the Italian Trade Agency -ITA, gave an overview of past and ongoing activities, unveiling upcoming initiatives that will involve ANVE and the sector. Representatives from the Orders, featuring Oronzo Milillo (President of the Order of Agronomy and Forestry Doctors of the Province of Bari), Mario Braga (President of the National Council of Agronomy and Graduate Agronomy Doctors), and Sabrina Diamanti (President of the National Council of Agronomy and Forestry Doctors) in remote connection, added richness to the event. Tim Briercliffe, AIPH Secretary General, then presented a global overview of the association’s activities (see the box). Returning to Italy, Valeria Randazzo (Brand Manager Myplant & Garden – V Group) and Gloria Oppici (Brand Manager Flormart – Fiere Parma), responsible for the two most important national trade fairs, illustrated the organization of these events and the modernization of the trade fair concept. The event concluded with the presentation of the ‘Stefano Capitanio’ Graduation Prize, established in memory of the founding member and aimed at young graduates (details and extracts of the theses of the 2023 winners are availables in the next pages). The success of the event was highlighted by the final commemorative photo, capturing the smiles of the participants.
Mark on your calendar the date May 25, 2024: don’t miss the XVI National Mediterranean Nursery Day.

It is clear that our world needs the green industry. Cities
cannot tackle and adapt to a changing climate without
plants and trees. To make a liveable city, it is now well-proven
that citizens need to be surrounded by nature. Cities
need greening, and our sector has the product and abilities
to deliver on this.
With this in mind, the future of our sector is bright and increasingly,
we will be recognised as an essential industry.
During the ANVE meeting in Monopoli, AIPH Secretary General
Tim Briercliffe presented the initiatives being developed
by AIPH to raise the profile of the ‘power of plants’.
Through our approved International Horticultural Exhibitions
and our Green City Awards and campaigns, we will be
supporting the sector to maximise every opportunity and to
play our part in making a better world.
